Living in close co-operative community can become spicy at times. Historically the Collective had 2019 Code of Conduct and 2019 Ningana Conflict Resolution Process to understand the expectations as residents.
Now we are a NSW Fair Trading registered Co-operative, we have new Co-op Guidelines in place for Dispute Management and Governance for 'Disputes and Mediation' from our Co-op Rules.
FAST FACTS Local Regulations
As CENSW do not get involved in interpersonal conflict, historically members have sought Personal Violence Orders (APVO) as this order relates to the protection of a person/s where there is no domestic relationship between the parties i.e. neighbours or co-workers. See a complete guide for more info.
Our Local Area Command is Glebe Police Station where a dedicated Liaison Officer (DVLO) is available to discuss this specific protection process.
Condition 1 of an AVPO includes provisions related to property damage as part of the scope of protection. Photos and videos can be provided on a USB to support an APVO application form that is lodged at the Local Court.
Please consider using a head set or earphones when listening to media were volumes may become an issue.
Ningana has a responsibility in the Residential Tenancy Agreement for the quiet enjoyment for all tenants in their properties. The closeness of properties to each other at Ningana, makes noise a significant issue. The most frequent issue that arises between Ningana residents is the impact of noise.
See guidance on how inner west local council regulates noise complaints between neighbours in our area. Please behave with civility and reasonableness when interacting with your neighbour/s about socially unacceptable noise levels.
FAST FACTS Local Noise Regulations
Power tools or equipment / Noise restrictions ~ Before 8am or after 8pm on any Saturday, Sunday or public holiday, or before 7am or after 8pm on any other day.
Music, musical instruments or TV / Noise restrictions ~ Before 8am or after midnight on any Friday, Saturday, or the day immediately before a public holiday, or before 8am or after 10pm on any other day.
Inner West Council Construction Hours 7am to 6pm do not apply unless contract construction is in progress, such as a unit upgrade. If such industrial noise outside of hours please contact CENSW.

2025 International Year of Co-operatives
On June 19, 2024, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Cooperatives, underscoring the vital role cooperatives play in sustainable development. This year’s theme “Cooperatives Build a Better World” underscores the enduring global impact of cooperatives, positioning them as essential solutions to today’s global challenges. A series of events acknowledging this important movement are open for participation.
Founded as a Company in 1983, Ningana Collective has made the democratic group decision to officially form a Co-operative. The Ningana VOTES 2024 results and decision journey can be viewed in the 'Source Documents.'
